Late Game Heroics Pull Delhi Past Clark's Summit

Delhi - In a back-and-forth battle, the Broncos (5-2, 1-0) defeated Clark's Summit 4-3 in the final moments of the match. With just 11 seconds left, the Broncos found their match-winner off a corner to start off 5-2 for the first time since 2018.

The Broncos kept their foot on the gas throughout the game posting 18 total shots and putting 10 on goal. Four different Broncos found the back of the net which would prove just enough.

"We made some very surprising and critical mistakes in our own box tonight. Credit to Clarks Summit who pushed us to our limits, said head coach E.J. Reutemann, "Their forward Kingsley Okoi was every bit of what we had heard prior to the game and gave us all that we could handle for ninety minutes."

The Broncos once again rushed out of the gates, scoring just 12 minutes into the game, when Michael Williams Jr. picked out Anthony Cuellar for his second goal of the year. Clark's Summit was quick to equalize, scoring in the 27th minute. Williams would go on to score the next goal for the Broncos on a penalty kick, his fifth of the year. The Defenders would go tie the match at 2-2 before halftime with neither team able to pull away.

The second half would see more of the back-and-forth battle between the squads until the Broncos scored again. Off the corner from Eric Manta, Julio Fernandez-Suarez was able to perfectly position himself for a header in the 77th minute.

As the time ticked away, the intensity built up on the pitch. With just three minutes left, Clark's Summit grabbed another goal to even up the match at 3-3. But just as they have done all season the Bronco's fought till the end and their efforts paid off. With 11 seconds left on the clock, defender Vaughn Bottex put away a loose ball from a corner. Two Broncos would record an assist on the final goal as Justin Huallanca was able to tip it to Bottex of a superb corner from Anthony Cuellar.

"For our group to continue to battle and find that piece of magic in the last few seconds was tremendous. Anthony, Michael, Julio and especially Vaughn with the final goal were spectacular in those moments, said coach Reutemann, "To stay calm in a very chaotic atmosphere and finish their chance, gave us an opportunity at this great result for the program"

Delhi improves to 5-2 and looks to keep up the momentum when they travel to Maine to play Husson in a conference matchup on Saturday, September 24th at 1 pm. They will then stop at UMPI on the way home and play Sunday, September 25th at 12 pm.
