Late Shaniyah Myers goal seals Delhi's victory over NAC opponent SUNY Canton

Delhi, NY – Women's soccer defeated North Atlantic Conference opponents SUNY Canton on a rainy afternoon with a score of 1-0, thanks to a late goal by sophomore forward Shaniyah Myers with three minutes remaining. After suffering a defeat in their first match of the season, the Broncos have won five straight, including two conference matches, outscoring their opponents 18-2.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW  

  • While holding the Roos to just one shot that didn't threaten the goal, the green and gold team were on the attack in the first half, amassing 16 shots.  

  • After another stalemate in the second half, the game remained scoreless until sophomore Shaniyah Myers (North Babylon, NY) broke it open with three minutes left.  

  • She took the ball from outside the box, beat a defender, and curled the game-winning shot around the goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season.  

  • The Broncos' defense was nearly flawless for the 90 minutes, allowing just two total shots, with only one on goal. 

  • Freshman goalkeeper Abigail Allen (Orange Park, FL) recorded her third clean sheet in three appearances this year.  

  • Delhi had nine players combine for 30 shots, forcing the Roo's keeper to make 19 saves.
