Women’s Soccer took down Pitt-Bradford 6-1 away from home; Six Broncos found the back of the net

Delhi, NY – Delhi's Women's Soccer collected their first win of the season, taking down Pitt-Bradford 6-1 for the second leg of the two-game road trip. Six different Broncos scored including four who scored their first-ever college goal. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 

  • Sophomore Shaniyah Myers (North Babylon, NY) got the goal party going with a solo goal in the 26th minute for her first of the year, putting away a Kailey Leach (Latham, NY) rebounded shot. She would later set up their third goal of the day, putting up a team-high six shots 

  • Freshman defender Ava Battista (Scarsdale, NY) scored her first college goal in the 32nd minute from a free kick from outside the box. She curled the ball from right to left, dodging the goalkeeper for an incredible welcome to the green and gold. They wrapped up the half up 2-0. 

  • The Broncos would add four more goals in the second half while only seeing one goal through on their own net. Senior Alanna Ruchar (Delhi, NY), Senior Kayla Beers (East Meredith, NY), freshman Lizzetta Myers (Sterling, NY), and sophomore Evelin Chacha (Tarrytown, NY) all scored their first goals of 2023.  

  • Beers, Myers, and Chacha's goals all marked their first collegiate goals 

  • Junior Julia Ruppert (Franklin Square, NY) and freshman Abigail Allen (Orange Park, FL) split the time in goal, with Allen making the team-high two saves on the day.  

  • Delhi kept solid pressure and was excellent on the ball, dishing out three assists. Battista, Shaniyah Myers, and Leach would all get their first assist of 2023.

The Broncos return to Delhi to make their 2023 home debut on Neil Riddell Field, taking on Keystone on Wednesday, September 6th at 6:00 PM EST.
