SUNY Delhi Teams of the Month: Men's Golf and Women's Soccer (September 2023)

In the inaugural edition of the 2023-24 SUNY Delhi Teams of the Month, Delhi Men's Golf and Women's Soccer have the distinct honor of being recognized after their outstanding performances in September.

Delhi Men's Golf

Men's Golf couldn't have asked for a better start to the season, winning four of their first five invites. With multiple golfers stepping up, the Broncos have seen three different players claim the top spot on the leaderboards through seven compitions.

Senior Thomas Christoffersen is back leading the Broncos after a great junior year campaign in 2022. He has secured two individual wins this season already, topping the leaderboard at the Bronco Invite and in a Dual Match with impressive low scores. In the last outing for Delhi, Christoffersen jumped up eight spots after a 15th place finish on day one, helping the team to secure third place out of 12 programs.

More key standouts from the green and gold golf team include two freshmen who have quickly made their impact felt. First-year players John Souva and Noah Tyler have played important roles on the deep Delhi team, working their way onto the scoring team and making a significant difference. Souva wasted no time, securing second place overall individually in the first action of the season and immediately following that with a win at the Bronco Invite in his second appearance of the year. Tyler has also performed exceptionally well, finishing second overall in Elmira before winning the SUNY Canton Invite.

The team is currently in preparation mode for the 2023 North Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament, scheduled to take place on October 7th and 8th at the scenic Partridge Run Golf & Country Club.

Delhi Women's Soccer

After making their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance last year by winning the NAC, the Broncos are back stronger than ever in the 2023 season. Through eight matches, Delhi currently holds a conference-leading (5-1-2) record. After losing their first match of the season, they haven't dropped another, outscoring their opponents 20-4 during this streak. This marks their best start to the season since joining the NCAA.

Among the standout performers is sophomore Shaniyah Myers, who has emerged as a goal-scoring sensation for the green and gold in her second season. Her quick bursts of speed and agility have been crucial to the Delhi attack, as she leads the team with eight goals this year.

The young core has stepped up for the Broncos, with many first-year players playing significant roles. Freshman goalkeepers Vanessa Sanchez and Abigail Allen have been exceptional, recording three clean sheets while allowing only six goals through eight matches.

More standout performances include freshman Ava Battista, who has contributed with a goal and two assists, and Ava Britsch, who has started seven matches in the backline.

Delhi Women's Soccer will host MCLA on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 6:00 PM.
