After an exciting week for Delhi, kicking off the 2023 season for six athletic programs, these two Delhi athletes landed on the first edition of Broncos of the Week!

Ava Battista (Scarsdale, NY / Eastchester HS) - Women's Soccer

Defender Ava Battista had a strong start to her Delhi career, helping the Broncos during their away trip to Geneva and Pitt-Bradford. After playing 90 minutes in her debut on Friday, she scored her first college goal in the 32nd minute with an impressive free kick from outside the box during the match against Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. Battista curled the ball from right to left, beating the goalkeeper for a memorable introduction to the green and gold. Later in the game, she also recorded her first assist by delivering another well-placed ball from a free kick that found a teammate for their first ever college goal. 

Battista and the women's soccer team will make their 2023 home debut on Neil Riddell Field on Wednesday, Septemeber 6th at 6:00 PM. 

Erik Kleczkowski (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville HS) - Men's Soccer

Junior Erik Kleczkowski played a pivotal role in both of Delhi's goals in their home season opener against the Privateers, assisting on both. On the second effort, he set up his teammate perfectly right in front of the goal inside the box with a short cross to seal the match. He also did extremely well in controlling the midfield, helping Delhi to a near perfect defensive match, not allowing a single shot on target. 

His two assists in the opener doubled his career total as he couldn't have hoped for a better start to his junior year campaign. Kleczkowski and the men's soccer team is on the road on Wednesday, Septemeber 6th before returning for a home match this weekend.
