Delhi Women's Soccer defeat SUNY Poly 1-0 in first conference match

Utica, NY – Delhi Women's Soccer took on SUNY Poly on the road in their first North Atlantic Conference match of the season, defeating the Wildcats 1-0. This win puts the Broncos at 4-1, their best start to the season since 2018 when they went 5-0 through their first five appearances.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:  

  • After a tight first half in which neither team was able to take the lead, they went into the half deadlocked at zeros. 

  • The Broncos freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Sanchez (Jurupa Valley, CA) made two saves as the offense only put up three total shots in the first half. 

  • Delhi made their mark when it counted, putting away what would be the match-winner in the 67th minute. 

  • Sophomore Kailey Leach (Latham, NY) scored with a header from a wonderful cross in from the corner by freshman Kaitlyn Hines (Staten Island, NY). 

  • That was Leach's first goal of the season, and it marked Hines's third assist in the last three matches. 

  • In goal, Sanchez finished with three saves as she and the Broncos recorded their second clean sheet of 2023.
