WATERVILLE, Me. (October 19, 2019) – In a matchup of the top two NAC teams Saturday, the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team traveled to face first-place Thomas. The host Terriers jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead before Delhi's Jose Leiva cut the deficit in half with a score in the 30th minute. It would stand as the Broncos' lone score of the day, though, as Thomas tacked on another goal late in the second half to secure a 3-1 victory. Head coach Brian Mitko's team remains in second place in the NAC standings with a 5-2 conference record and 8-7 overall.

Thomas got out in front at 21:31 when Macquille Walker scored off a feed from Zenawi Bowen. This was echoed just moments later at 26:19 off an Eric LaBrie score, assisted by Drew Parsons. But perhaps as quick as the Terriers believed they would run away with a win, Leiva found the perfect moment to get his first score of the season and get Delhi back in the game with an unassisted goal at 29:07. Goalkeeper Corey O'Toole and Delhi's defense did their part to keep the game close, as O'Toole logged five saves on the day. These efforts would not be enough, however, as Thomas maintained its lead before lengthening it at 75:21 off a Kyle Patterson score.

With one more league contest at Northern Vermont Lyndon next Saturday, the Broncos can clinch the second seed and a first-round bye for the NAC Tournament with a win over the Hornets. Their only other conference loss this season was against SUNY Canton, who owns 4-4 league record. Closely behind Delhi in the standings are Maine Maritime and Husson, who the Broncos both defeated earlier this year.

The six-seed NAC Tournament features the top two seeds earning a first-round bye, with seeds three through six squaring off in the league quarterfinals the weekend of Nov. 2-3, hosted by the third and fourth seed. The winners will head to the number-one seed for the NAC Final Four the weekend of Nov. 9-10.

Coach Mitko's men wrap their regular season with their conference showdown at NVU Lyndon next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
