DELHI, N.Y. (October 12, 2019) – A pair of goals in the first and second halves guided the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team to a 4-0 NAC home shutout win over Maine Presque Isle Saturday afternoon. Juan Velez led the attack with two goals, while Carlos Del Monte and Brody Rettle each tallied scores as the Broncos improved to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Head coach Brian Mitko's team maintained their second-place status in the NAC standings.

Delhi began its productive scoring day when Del Monte's dribbler from outside the box cleared the defenders and entered the left side of the net to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead at 19:16. Juan Velez seconded that notion by getting on the board three minutes later when his shot deflected off a defender and found the upper left corner of the net at 22:18 as the men took a 2-0 lead into halftime. They started up again swiftly in the second half when Velez got his second score when Christian Quinde crossed the ball in from the left side that Velez connected on to take a 3-0 lead at 46:16. Team-leading scorer Brody Rettle joined in on the scoring action at 74:33, when he carried the ball up the goal line from the left side, which deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for Delhi's last score of the day.

Velez and Rettle's goals Saturday puts them tied for the team lead with eight goals, with Rettle ahead in total scoring with 18 points. Goalkeepers Corey O'Toole and Noah Blake exchanged halves in net for the combined shutout, with the starting O'Toole picking up the victory to improve to 6-5 on the season. O'Toole had two saves, while Blake had one. The Broncos held a 27-7 lead in shots, including 14-3 in shots on goal.

The win keeps Delhi in second place in the NAC standings, trailing only Thomas, who has a 4-0 conference record; the two teams are scheduled to meet next Saturday at Thomas.

Coach Mitko's squad have a quick turnaround, as they are back on their home field Sunday hosting NAC-foe Husson at 12:00 noon.
