DELHI, N.Y. (September 7, 2019) – Two second-half goals pushed the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team ahead of Albany College of Pharmacy in their home opener Saturday for their first win of the year by a 2-0 score. On an afternoon where the Broncos overwhelmed the Panthers, 31-9 in shots, including 18-5 in shots on goal, head coach Brian Mitko's team was star-crossed until finally breaking through with scores in the 71st and 84th minute to improve to 1-3 on the season.

Delhi hit pay dirt at 70:51 when a cross into the box from the left side bounced off a Panthers defender and found the goal to give the Broncos the long-awaited 1-0 lead. They all but sealed a victory at the 83:06 mark when a cross by Emmanuel Gonzalez from the right side was booted in cleanly by Denzel Monexant for his first career score. Goalkeeper Corey O'Toole totaled five saves, picking up his first career shutout to improve to 1-3 on the season.

The Broncos were pitted against a 14-save performance by Panthers keeper Ryan Hobson that kept them scoreless through over two-thirds of the match. Both sides had close chances early on in the second half to get on the board first. Delhi had its closest call up to that point in the 58th minute when a shot by Daniel Prendergast from the right side bounced off Hobson in front of an open goal. Jose Leiva raced to bury the ball in, but could not connect. ACPHS had its chance when Gavin Carvey gathered a ball in the box, took aim to the right side past O'Toole, but bounced off the right post and back into play.

The win puts Delhi in the win column for the first time this year after opening the year with three straight road defeats at SUNY Potsdam, Utica and Clarks Summit. The Broncos will remain at home for their next contest versus Bard on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
