Track & Field Returns To Action, Trio Secures AARTFC Qualification

Utica, NY - The SUNY Delhi track & field team launched the start to their season at the Utica Holiday Classic, which saw several All Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying performances. 

On the women's side, Delhi dominated the sprints. In the 60 meter dash, Shaesha Johnson placed first overall (7.75), shattering the Delhi school record of 7.84 that was set by Jaylynn Sheppard back in 2022.  Miranda Cole was second in the 60 meters (7.96) as well for the Broncos, earning herself fourth all-time in school history.  Both Johnson and Cole qualified for the AARTFC Championships to be held at Ithaca College in March. Sprint teammate Zoe Rodi would be the Broncos next AARTCF qualifier, getting it done in two separate events, finishing first in the women's 200m (26.48) and in the women's 400m (59.93). Johnson placed second in the 200 meters behind Rodi, running 26.52.

On the men's side, the relay combination of Ryan Swinea, Marvin Markland, Dametrious Esannason, and Cristhian Cuevas would take first in the men's 4x200. Delhi would also take first overall in the 4x400 behind performances from Richard Fuller, Leonardo Ballentine, Dale Lambert, and Jamar Matthew. Marvin Markland (6.98) and Dametrious Esannason (7.01) became the first men on the team to punch thier tickets to the AARTFC Championships by placing second and third respectively in the 60 meters.  Markland tied the fifth spot on the Delhi all-time list with the effort.  In the men's triple jump, Taeyoung Kim would take second overall (14.24), earning him a spot in Delhi's top five all-time in school history at third. Richard Fuller would add to his strong performance, capturing third place in the men's 300m, placing him third all-time in school history as well.

The Broncos will have an extended break before their next meet as they will shift their attention to the Utica Winter Classic on Friday, Jan. 17.
