Track & Field Ready for Weekend's Conference Championships

DELHI, N.Y. (April 26, 2019) – Armed with countless career performances and highly-ranked conference marks, the SUNY Delhi men's and women's track and field teams are ready to compete at Regis College this Saturday and Sunday for the NAC/GNAC/NECC Outdoor Championships. The competition will be held at the Regis Athletics Complex in Weston, Mass.

Head coach Robb Munro has equipped a competitive group this outdoor season that posted NAC-leading marks in 22 events, 12 combined NAC Athlete of the Week honors, and AARTFC regional qualifiers in seven events. Delhi also features nine NAC champions from last year returning for this weekend's competition.

SUNY Delhi One-Two in NAC Pre-Championship Poll | WOMEN'S RELEASE | MEN'S RELEASE

As announced by the conference on Thursday, the Broncos women were ranked first in the NAC's Pre-Championship Poll with 48 votes, including six first-place votes. The men were slotted second in their poll with 45 votes and three first-place votes, ranking just behind Husson, who received 46 votes and four first-place votes.

Returning NAC Champions | 2018 RECAP

In their NAC Championship debut last season, the Broncos won ten events, with nine of those recipients making a return appearance this weekend.

  • Madeeah Oranchak (Binghamton, NY / Binghamton)
    • LAST YEAR: Won 200 meters with new NAC Championship meet record of 26.64. Took second in 100 meters at 12.83 and second in 4x400 relay at 4:21.62.
    • THIS YEAR: Set to compete in 100m, 200m, long jump, triple jump, 4x100.
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Set a career best and NAC-leading mark in the triple jump at 10.64m at the Bronco Classic on April 13. Ran a season-best 26.55 at Mount Saint Mary on Mar. 30.
  • Kobie Lane (Port Jervis, NY / Port Jervis)
    • LAST YEAR: Won 1500 meters with a time of 4:12.84.
    • THIS YEAR: Set to compete in 1500m, 5K.
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Broke school 5K record at Penn Relays on April 25 with a time of 14:37.71.
  • Matthew Scavetta (Livingston, NJ / Livingston)
    • LAST YEAR: Won pole vault with a height of 4.10m.
    • THIS YEAR: Set to compete in pole vault.
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Cleared a season-best 4.23m in the pole vault at East Stroudsburg on April 20.

NAC Athletes of the Week

On both the men's and women's sides, Delhi boasted eight student-athletes receiving NAC Athlete of the Week honors, including three who earned multiple accolades.

  • Sean Andrews, Sprints (Brooklyn, NY / Prospect Heights) – Two-time NAC Track Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 200m, 400m, 4x400
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Earned new career bests in the 200 and 400 meters. Ran a 22.91 in the 200m at Mount Saint Mary on Mar. 30, followed by a 51.31 time in the 400m at the Bronco Classic on April 13.
  • Shamar Barker, Sprints (Queens, NY / Wingate) – NAC Rookie of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 200m, 400m, 4x400
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Ran on the 4x100 and 4x400 teams that posted NAC-leading times. Completed a mark of 43.92 on the 4x100 at Mount Saint Mary on Mar. 30, and anchored the 4x400 that clocked in at 3:29.47 at Bronco Classic on April 13. Ranks third in the conference in both the 200 meters (23.27) and 400 meters (51.76).
  • Glenn Butler Jr., Jumps & Sprints (White Plains, NY / White Plains) – NAC Field Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 100m, 200m, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Leads the NAC in the high jump and long jump. Cleared 2.01m in the high jump at Mount Saint Mary on Mar. 30 and leaped to a distance of 6.86m in the long jump one week later at TCNJ on April 5.
  • Diana Echols, Throws (Ellenville, NY / Ellenville) – Two-time NAC Field Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: Shot Put, Discus, Hammer
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a NAC-leading measurement of 41.94m at TCNJ on April 6. Ranks second all-time at Delhi in the shot put after throwing for 11.71m at the Bronco Classic on April 13.
  • Susan Hoskins, Multi (Binghamton, NY / Susquehanna Valley) – NAC Field Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 100m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, High Jump, Javelin, 4x400
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Tallied a career-high 3,188 points at SUNY Cortland's heptathlon on April 19-20. Earned a competition-best 599 points in the high jump with a height of 1.42m. Also took 552 points in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.40 and 542 points in 200 meters at 29.16.
  • Alex Irving, Jumps (Binghamton, NY / Chenango Valley) – NAC Field Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: Long Jump, Triple Jump
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Triple jumped to a career best and regional-qualifying mark at East Stroudsburg on April 20. Despite clearing both on his first attempt at 13.51m, Irving bested even that on his third and final jump at 13.84m.
  • Katerina Salcedo, Sprints & Mid-Distance (Binghamton, NY / Binghamton) – Three-time NAC Rookie of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x400, 4x800
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Set a new school standard in the 800 meters with a NAC-best time of 2:15.85 at TCNJ on April 6. Ranks 30th in 800m in all NCAA Division III.
  • Abshir Yerow, Distance (Syracuse, NY / Nottingham) – NAC Track Athlete of the Week
    • COMPETING IN: 5K, 10K
    • SEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Set a career best in the 10K at Princeton, running for a time of 31:44.94 on April 6.
