DELHI, N.Y. (May 29, 2019) – Recent SUNY Delhi graduate and 2019 NAC Men's Track and Field Senior Scholar Athlete Nicholas Arnecke (Edmeston, NY / Edmeston) parlayed his high academics into his second straight selection to the CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team. He was both a 2018 Academic All-District and All-American recipient in this capacity, with this year's honor making him the first SUNY Delhi student-athlete earning this distinction as a member in NCAA Division III.
Arnecke recently graduated with a perfect 4.00 GPA and a degree in Hospitality Management. He ran the fastest 10,000-meter time in the conference this season (31:20.94) just days before finishing second in the event at the NAC Championship in a time of 34:14.90. He holds the second-fastest time in the conference in the 5,000-meter run (14:52.81), which he achieved two days before a third-place finish in the NAC Championship race (15:53.12). Despite being ranked second in the conference's pre-championship poll, the Broncos won the NAC Championship, and also the Inter-Conference Championship with the GNAC and NECC.
Competing in both cross country and track and field, Arnecke's resume at SUNY Delhi included three straight seasons earning USCAA Men's Cross Country First Team All-American honors, helping Delhi to national titles in each of those years. He was named the 2016 USCAA Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year, and competed in the 5,000 meters at the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. The Edmeston, NY native holds school records in the indoor 5K (14:59.92) and the outdoor 10K (30:44.62), setting both marks in coveted venues at the New York City Armory and Penn Relays, respectively. He ran at Penn Relays in both 2018 and 2019. Arnecke capped off his career at the AARTFC Regional Championships, taking third in both the 5K and 10K, which were run an hour apart from one another.
Arnecke balanced school, athletics, and working part-time during his entire career, and even retook a class in his final semester that he originally received an A-minus in to graduate with a perfect GPA. He and his fellow Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with the selections to be announced June 25.

The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA - and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
CoSIDA began the distinguished Google Cloud Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. Deserving student athletes are nominated by campus Sports Information Directors who are dues-paying members of CoSIDA. To be nominated,a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have reached sophomore standing and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form
Currently, CoSIDA sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program.
