DELHI, N.Y. (November 27, 2018) – The All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) has announced SUNY Delhi as an affiliate member for men's and women's track and field for the 2018-19 season. Along with their new membership in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), this marks the latest pivotal step in the track and field program's new chapter in NCAA Division III. The Broncos open their indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 1, as they prepare for the AARTFC Championships on Saturday, Mar. 2 at Ithaca College.
"We are very happy to join the AARTFC," said head coach Robb Munro, "as the next step in developing our program at the NCAA level. We have a lot of high-quality student-athletes, and this meet will provide opportunities to compete on a big stage. This conference will be another opportunity for those student-athletes to continue to develop in high level meets."
The 2018-19 season marks the Broncos' first year as official NCAA Division III members. Upon receiving membership in February 2018, track and field soon after were accepted to join the NAC, and competed at the conference championships this past May, winning ten events. Delhi will be affilliated with both conferences this season.
SUNY Delhi track and field is responsible for six of the college's 25 national championships, with the men winning four and the women two during the school's time in the NJCAA. The program continued their stride when the institution transitioned to four-year athletics in 2015, with the men winning three straight USCAA National Invitationals and the women capturing two straight. Runner Kobie Lane became the team's first four-year All-American when he placed sixth in the 3,000 meters at the 2018 NAIA Indoor Championships.
Delhi will open their indoor season Saturday competing at the TCNJ Season Opener at the New York City Armory, then will head to the Utica Pioneer Winter Classic Dec. 8. The Broncos then will take some time off before traveling to the Hamilton Invite on Jan. 18 and the Utica Pioneer Open on Jan. 26. Come February, the men and women will compete in a number of high-performance meets: the Ithaca Bomber Invite, Feb. 2, Boston Valentine Invitational Feb. 8 and 9, Colgate Class of '32 Invite Feb. 9, Cornell Denault Invite Feb. 16. The Broncos will close out their regular season at the Armory Last Chance on Feb. 22.
