Three Broncos Headed to NCAA Championships

DELHI, NY (May 24, 2022) - Three members of the Delhi Broncos Track and Field team will be heading to their first NCAA Outdoor Championships held at The Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Rebecca Heuler, Joshua Jeffes and Naquille Harris will all be competing over the three day meet.  This year marks Delhi's first year as a full member of NCAA Division III and thus the first time Delhi athletes will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Rebecca Heuler, who will be the first female in Delhi's history to compete at an NCAA Championship, will be competing in the javelin throw on Thursday at 3:30pm.  Heuler, who is also a member of the SUNY Delhi volleyball team, first started learning the event only three months ago and has been a natural.  In her first meet on March 26, 2022, Heuler only threw 21.84 meters.  Two weeks later on April 9th, she improved her mark to 34.87 meters.  On May 1, she became the North Atlantic Conference Champion in the event and on May 15, she threw an incredible 40.69 meters at Nazareth College.  That mark set a SUNY Delhi school record and proved to be enough to put her in the top 20 women nationally.  She will enter the competition ranked 19th.

Second to open competition will be Naquille Harris, who will have a busy schedule in Geneva.  Harris will be competing in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  This past week at the All Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships, Harris set new SUNY Delhi School records as well as AARTFC meet records in both events, running 10.35 and 21.07 respectively.  Harris enters the weekend ranked fifth in both events and will start his competition on Thursday at 6:55pm with the preliminary heats of the 200 meter dash. Friday, he will be back on the track for the preliminary heats of the 100 meter dash at 3:45pm.  Both of those efforts will be with the goal of advancing to the finals on Saturday where the 100 final will go off at 1:40pm and the 200 final will go off at 2:50pm.

The final competitor to get their weekend started will be Joshua Jeffes.  Jeffes, who became SUNY Delhi's first NCAA All-American in the 400 meter dash at the 2022 NCAA Indoor track and field championships, will again be racing the 400 outdoors.  His preliminary race will be Friday at 3:15pm with the hopes of advancing to the finals on Saturday to go off at 1:20pm.  He enters the meet ranked 18th in the nation.

The Broncos will wrap up their season this weekend with this meet, finishing off their first full year in the NCAA.
