Harris Runs to Second Place in AARTFC Champpionships

ROCHESTER, NY (February 5, 2022) - The Delhi track and field team completed their meet at the AARTFC Championships on Saturday.  On Friday, Seth Bywater earned All-Region honors in the 5,000 meters and in day two, the Broncos added seven more All-Region finishes.

Leading the way was Naquille Harris, who ran to a runner-up finish in the 60 meter dash.  Harris, who is the Delhi school record holder in the event, ran 6.88 seconds to place second in the field.  Harris then cam back to run the 200 meter dash where he ran 22.42 for a seventh place finish.  Joining Harris in the 200 meters was teammate Joshua Jeffes.  Jeffes ran 22.37 seconds in the 200 meters to place sixth overall in his second event of the day.  Earlier in the meet, Jeffes had run the 400 meters where he placed sixth with a time of 49.64 seconds.

Also scoring a podium finish for the second day in a row was Seth Bywater.  Bywater placed seventh in the 5,000 meters last night and came back to match that with a seventh place finish in the 3,000 meters with a lifetime best time of 8:36.95, moving him to number three all-time in program history.

The women also added two all-region honors in the sprints.  Senior Jaylynn Sheppard, who broke the school record in the 60-meter dash on day one, finished her indoor college career with her first all-conference finish placing seventh in the 60 meter dash.  Her time of 7.93 seconds is her second fastest time ever, only trailing her school record from day one.  Her teammate Kadie-Ann Whyte had a massive performance of her own.  Whyte, who ran a huge lifetime best last week of 26.44 seconds on a banked track came up big with another personal best.  Whyte ran 26.36 seconds on the flat track at Nazareth to shock the field with a seventh place finish.

Overall, the men's team scored 20 total points spread out over five different events to place 12th in the field of 48 teams.  The two women combined for four points over two events to finish tied for 27th place out of 46 teams.  This meet marks the end of the season for the women's team as they begin to prepare for the outdoor season.  On the men's side, two individuals have a chance to make the field at the NCAA Championships and they now wait to see the final acceptances.  Naquille Harris will wait ot see where he ranks in the 60 meter dash while Joshua Jeffes has a good chance of getting in to the 400 meters.
