UTICA, N.Y. (December 11, 2021) – Three victories, one school first, and several brushes with school records made up the SUNY Delhi track and field teams' Saturday at the Utica College Winter Classic. It marked the first of three scheduled trips this season for the Broncos at Utica College.

Sprinters Naquille Harris and Tatianna Kistner, who each staked their claim for the 60 meter school records last weekend at Cornell, doubled down in their respective races on Utica's Pioneer Blue track. Kistner, who broke the record at Cornell in her first collegiate meet at 8.00, bested her own mark with a winning time of 7.92, becoming SUNY Delhi's first-ever sub-eight women's runner in the 60. Harris matched the school standard of 6.88 set by Marvin Elmore in 2002 to capture first place. Both went on to finish second in the 200 meters, with Kistner running 26.31, just .03 seconds off the top mark, and Harris 22.40, .14 seconds from the pace.

Runner Joshua Jeffes, who set the new school record in the 300 meters (35.56) last weekend at Cornell, set his sights on the 400 meters, winning the event in a time of 49.77, brining him with .17 seconds of that school mark. He then took fourth in the 200 meters at 22.58. The distance trio of Seth Bywater, John Amenta, and Aidan Cutting went four-five-six in the 3,000 meters, with Bywater at 8:59.81, Amenta at 9:10.52, and Cutting a personal-best 9:17.71.

The field events produced another shot at a school record. Chris Filatov cleared as high as 4.40m in the pole vault for fourth, getting in solid chances at 4.55m to break Andre Adkins' SUNY Delhi record of 4.45 set in 2012. Kitty Messina cracked the top ten with her second throw in the shot put in ninth at 9.92m, then 11th in the weight throw at 11.53m.

Kadie-Ann Whyte posted a sixth-place finish in the 60 meters at 8.29 after qualifying at 8.32, then took seventh in the 200 meters at 27.78. Sabrina Richards took a point in the 300 meters at 45.82 and 12th in the 200 meters at 28.49. Kailyn Oreglio earned fifth in the 3,000 meters as Kristina Messler earned eighth in the mile at 6:06.50 and Shyanne Lawton behind her in ninth at 6:09.73.

The Broncos take a well-deserved winter break and hope to return stronger in January, beginning with Utica College's Winter Opener Jan. 15.

Coach's Comments:

"Great meet today for the men. Some PR's and great races in the sprints. Jeffes ran an excellent 400-meter race. Naquille continues to improve. Chris Filatov had great attempts at the school record height in pole vault. And the 3K guys raced pretty well, including Aidan Cutting's PR. We look pretty good as we head into the winter break." – Head Coach Zach Brown

"A great meet for some of the women today as well. Tatianna continues to improve and make moves. Whyte and Richards had great sprint races as well setting multiple PR's. Kitty Messina had a great showing making it to finals in shot put as well. A great last meet before the winter break, excited to have them back training and for a few other ladies to join us when we return." – Head Coach Zach Brown
