MAHWAH, NJ (April 1-2, 2022) - The SUNY Delhi track and field teams had a great second weekend of their season heading south to Ramapo College for their Invitational.  The men ended up placing fourth in the 21 team field with 69 points while the women finished 8th in the field of 22 teams.  Points were awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.

Leading the way for the women was the sprint crew.  Jaylynn Sheppard ran another personal best in the 100 meter prelims hitting 12.69 seconds and teammate Kadie-Ann Whyte advance to the final with a 12.93 second performance.  Although neither of them ran faster in the finals, Sheppard placed third and Whyte eighth in the final.  In the 200 meters, Sheppard ran a career best of 26.75 seconds to place eighth.  In the 400 meters, sneiore Katerina Salcedo ran 1:02.84 to place fifth with teammate Sabrina Richards just behind her in 1:03.35 to place sixth.  The time for Richards was a big lifetime best for her.  Those four women, then combined to run the 4x100 meter relay and posted a second place finish with a time of 50.11 seconds to improve on the teams time from a week ago.

The other big strength on the women's team came from the throwing events.  Kitty Messina continued throwing the shot put well with a toss of 10.72 meters to place fifth.  In the discus circle, Rebecca Heuler also placed fifth with a throw of 32.64 meters.

For the men, recent indoor All-American Joshua Jeffes had a big day.  He opened his day with a win in the 400 meters and an outdoor best of 48.73 seconds.  He followed that up with a win, and lifetime best in the 200 meters, running 22.08 seconds.  However, the big highlight came at the end of the meet when he anchored the 4x400 meter relay.  Jeffes took the baton in 6th place in the heat and three full seconds behind the team in front of him.  He took off and started pulling the teams back, catching two of them on the final straightaway and the attention turned to the timing system.  The split came in at 47.14 seconds!

Also scoring in the 400 meters was Lorenzo Castro, who ran 52.75 seconds to place eighth.  There were some other good performances posted in shorter events as well.  Morgan Condon who ran a great debut in the college 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.07 seconds.  Unfortunately, a crash in the final resulted in no points for Condon.  Teammate Joe Ciufo also posted a strong 110 hurdle time of 16.91 seconds to advance to the finals.  There he ran another personal best of 16.81 seconds to place fifth overall.  In the field, Chris Filatov won the pole vault, clearing a career best 4.41 meters, a mark that will also qualify him for the All Atlantic Regional Championships in May.

The other points for the men all came from members of the cross country team.  Leading the charge was Seth Bywater.  On Friday night, Bywater won the 5,000 meter event with a time of 15:12.58. Bywater came back today to run in the 1,500 meter race where he placed third in the meet running 4:09.28.  Right behind Bywater in the 1,500 was Aidan Cutting who placed fourth with a time of 4:10.57.  Finally, Lewis Race accomplished a career goal breaking two minutes in the event for the first time ever.  His time of 1:59.26 was good enough to place third in the meet.

The teams will be back in action again next weekend at the Utica University Invitational on Saturday.
