Harris Posts Eye-Popping Time in 60 Dash

WEST POINT, NY (February 19, 2022) - The SUNY Delhi track and field team was on the road again today with a trip to Army West Point for the West Point Tune-Up.  The day trip resulted in yet another school record and many other big improvements.

Freshman sprinter Naquille Harris continued his assault on the SUNY Delhi sprint records.  Harris tied the school record for the 60 meter dash early in the season, then broke it a few weeks later when he ran 6.87 seconds.  In a loaded race at West Point, he took the win, running an astounding 6.81 seconds, a time that is good enough to move him up to the fourth fastest time in the nation for division III.  Fellow freshman Joshua Jeffes ran a big personal best as well with his time of 7.18 seconds.  That performance dropped a full tenth of a second off his previous best and is good for the sixth fastest time in program history and placed him fifth in the loaded meet.  Harris doubled back to win the 200 meters as well in a time of 22.72 while Jeffes got some endurance work in the 800 meters with a fourth place finish in 1:57.30 which is number five in program history.

Another big event for the Broncos was the mile where Aidan Cutting (4:24.40), John Amenta (4:25.70), Seth Bywater (4:25.93) and Lewis Race (4:32.40) all ran great performances.  Each of those times was a personal best performance for indoors and for Race was a five second drop from his big improvement a week ago.  Cutting, Amenta and Bywater place second, fourth and sixth respectively in the meet for the event.  Cutting (2:01.74), Race (2:02.06) and Amenta (2:03.43) all doubled back with strong performance in the 800 meter run.

On the women's side the team once again got great performances from the dynamic sprint duo of Jaylynn Sheppard and Kadie-Ann Whyte.  Sheppard won the 60 meter dash in 8.03 seconds with Whyte taking third overall in 8.09 seconds.  Both Sheppard and Whyte already rank in the top five in the school history for the event.

Junior Mary Lyons posted another strong finish for the women, placing sixth overall in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:36.77.

The team will travel a small group next week back down Ocean Breeze for a last chance qualifier and tune up meet before the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships in early March.
