DELHI, N.Y. (September 28, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's soccer team turned its fortunes around in tremendous fashion on Saturday, as two goals from Alexa Scaglione and another from Micayla Slattery made the difference in a 3-0 home victory over NAC-foe SUNY Canton. The Broncos returned to the win column following three straight defeats to improve to 5-3-1 on the season, including 2-1 in NAC play.

The Broncos held a comfortable grip on the first half, holding a 14-7 lead in shots, with several close chances to start. After a few close opportunities, Alexa Scaglione got hers at 17:37, picking up a feed from Micayla Slattery for the 1-0 lead. Delhi settled in to its one-goal lead for most of the remainder of the half before Scaglione gave the Broncos some breathing room with another goal, assisted by Alexa DuBois, as 43.8 seconds showed on the clock before halftime. Delhi remained on track in the second half, steadily keeping the Roos off the scoreboard as goalkeeper Rachael Scoones finished with six saves for her first shutout of 2019. The final goal came courtesy of Micayla Slattery at 74:22 on an assist from Kristen Lombardo.

The ladies more than doubled Canton's shot total by a 25-12 margin, including 16-7 in shots on goal. In addition to Scoones' six saves, Delhi's defense posted one defensive save on the day, as defender A'mya Joseph cleared a potential attack off a cross in the six-yard box out of harm's way.

DuBois bumped her scoring numbers to rank second on the team with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Slattery is third with 16 points on four goals and eight assists, while Scaglione is fourth with 14 points on six goals and two assists.

Head coach Lauren Mackay's team closed out a four-match home stand on a positive note after suffering defeats in their previous three matches. This included back-to-back double overtime defeats, both by 3-2 scores, to Morrisville State and NAC-opponent Maine Maritime, and a 4-1 loss to Lycoming on Tuesday. They have this week to get ready for their next contest at NAC-foe Maine Farmington on Saturday, Oct. 5.
