Ladies Rally in Second Half for 2-2 Draw at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. (August 30, 2019) – SUNY Delhi women's soccer made a bold first impression at Alfred State to start off the 2019 season, coming back from a 2-0 second-half deficit for a 2-2 draw with the Pioneers. Broncos newcomers A'mya Joseph and Alexa DuBois supplied the latter two scores, with Delhi's defense holding off their hosts over both overtime periods to keep the match gridlocked.

Alfred State drew first blood when Maggie Meyer scored at the 13:14 mark for the first half's only score. The Pioneers appeared to take ahold of the match at 52:42 when Angela Martone collected the second score for a 2-0 advantage. That perception dissolved rather quickly when freshman Joseph got a feed from Sydney Tuysuzian to connect for Delhi's first goal of the year and cutting the lead to 2-1 at 55:55. Goalkeeper Jessica Shultis, who substituted for starting keeper Rachael Scoones at halftime, totaled four saves in her 65 minutes of action, as her defense kept A-State off the board. With time running short in regulation, Micayla Slattery set up DuBois for the equalizer at 85:01 that knotted things up at 2-2 to force overtime. Both extra periods proved to be rather quiet, with one Delhi shot accounting for all scoring chances.

Friday night's draw was the latest chapter in the Broncos-Pioneers rivalry. The two teams met twice last season, where Delhi won the first meeting, 3-2, and Alfred State taking a 2-1 victory in the ACAA semifinals.

The ladies open their home season on Sunday for an afternoon matchup against SUNY Poly at 12 noon, followed by a road contest at Elmira on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
