Holland Nears 1,000 Career Points Following Tuesday's Matchup at Maine Maritime

DELHI, N.Y. (January 14, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team began their two-day Maine road trip with a 79-36 defeat to Maine Maritime. Samiaya Salley led the Broncos with 13 points as Delhi, 3-14, continues on its travels playing Husson Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Kiera Holland finished with seven points and four assists as the junior moved closer to the 1,000 career point milestone with 986 points. Sam Acuna hit on a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points and eight rebounds, while Diana Echols recorded a game-high ten rebounds with four points. Brenna Gioffe made four points on the evening, as Katelyn Lewis tallied two points with nine boards.

The Mariners opened the game on a 20-0 run as they led, 23-6, at the first quarter break. The Broncos rebounded with an even second quarter, as both sides made 14 points in the quarter as MMA led at halftime, 37-20. The hosts again took control, opening the third quarter on a 19-3 run, outscoring the Broncos, 42-16, in the second half.

Delhi shot 23.1 percent (12-for-52), making 3-of-25 threes and 9-of-15 free throws. Maine Maritime shot 45.8 percent (33-for-72), 7-of-22, and 6-of-8, respectively. MMA led, 43-36, in rebounds, converted 29 Broncos turnovers for a 38-4 lead in points off turnovers, and posted a 48-12 lead in points in the paint.

Following tomorrow's matchup with the Eagles, the Broncos are back home on Saturday to face ACAA-foe Pine Manor in a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
