ALFRED, N.Y. (December 7, 2019) – A dominating Alfred University second quarter was arguably the lone outlier in what was otherwise a strong effort by the SUNY Delhi women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in a 75-59 Saxons victory. Sam Acuna made four 3-pointers for a team-best 16 points, while Justin lubbers nearly had a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds as the Broncos moved to 1-8 on the season.

Both sides fared similarly percentage-wise in shooting. Alfred finished at 37.3 percent (31-for-83), despite leading in substantially in field goal attempts to Delhi's 35.1 percent (20-for-57). The Broncos outscored the Saxons from long range, making 7-of-17 to AU's 5-of-31, as well as making 12-of-21 from the charity stripe to the hosts' 8-of-13. The Broncos, however, were forced into 25 turnovers that led to a 25-13 Alfred lead in points off turnovers. AU also led, 46-40, in rebounds, including a 19-8 edge offensively that led to an 18-5 advantage in second chance points.

Delhi started the game off well to take an early lead and were up, 20-16, near the end of the first quarter. The Saxons scored the final seven points of the period for a 23-20 lead at quarter's end, then outscored Delhi, 22-5, in the second period for a 45-25 halftime advantage. Though the Broncos fought hard in the second half, even outscoring the Saxons, 23-14, in the fourth quarter was unable to get them any closer to tightening the double-digit gap.

Samiaya Salley finished with nine points and four boards, while Kiera Holland tallied eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Carrisa Crandall made 2-of-3 from behind the arc for six points, as Camryn McDonald totaled six points and finished tied with Lubbers for the team lead with nine boards to go along with three assists. Brenne Gioffe added four points and three rebounds.

Head coach Lauren McRoberts' team will host Alfred State next Saturday, Dec. 14 in their final game before winter break. The Broncos then come back from the holidays heading to Western Connecticut State in their Hat City Tournament Dec. 29-30. They'll square off against the host Colonials
