Records Fall As Broncos Track & Field Splits Up Between Meets

The Delhi Track and Field team split up this weekend to compete in two different invitationals.  While one group headed northwest to Cortland for the Upstate Alternative, another contingent traveled south to Bucknell University for the Bison Outdoor Invite.

The first to compete were that at Cortland on Saturday and the highlight of the day came from senior thrower, Kitty Messina.  Messina, who already broke the school record in the hammer throw earlier this spring, did it again.  Kitty launched the hammer 43.62 meters, more than a full meter ahead of her previous mark, 42.52.  Messina currently has the top throw in the North Atlantic Conference.  She also got her first chance to throw the javelin this season where she placed second with a toss of 30.32 meters.

That same evening, but much further south, senior John Amenta ran a new lifetime best in the 5,000 meters.  Amenta had a great performance, running 14:49.54 to pass Nick Arnecke on the all-time list moving into the number five spot.  Amenta closed his race with a terrific final lap of 1:03.73 to post the time.

On Sunday, the weather was improved and the performances would come.  The first highlight came from Zoe Rodi who ran her lifetime best in the 400 meters with a time of 58.75 seconds moving her to number two all-time on the program's lest, just shy of the record of 58.67.

Probably the most notable performance of the day came from Joshua Jeffes in the men's 400 meters.  Jeffes ran his first ever sub-47 second race, posting a 46.96 to take second overall.  That time will currently land him at number four in the nation for NCAA division III.

Other notable marks came from first year Dayzin Legare who ran 10.72 in the 100 meter dash to move into number three in program history in his first attempt at the event this season.

The Broncos will now travel all together again next weekend as they attend the Cortland Classic.
