Broncos Compete Well at Utica University on Cold, Windy Day

Utica, NY - The Delhi track and field teams traveled to Utica University to take part in the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite.  While the conditions were far from ideal, the athletes had a great showing in many events.  The men's team finished the meet in third place as a team among the field of 18 programs while the women placed seventh among the 17 women's programs in the field.

Leading the way for the women were four different Broncos.  Sophomore, Zoe Rodi was the only woman to win an event for Delhi, taking the individual title in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.56.  Senior thrower Kitty Messina continued to perform very well placing second overall in the women's shot put with an effort of 10.58 meters.  Marissa Lombardi and Kim Dean posted a pair of third place finishes for the Broncos with Lombardi doing so in the 10,000 meters, running 43:09.5 and Dean doing so in the long jump with her lifetime best performance joining the five meter club with a leap of 5.00 meters.

On the men's front, senior Joshua Jeffes continued to lead the Broncos with elite level performances.  Jeffes won the individual 400 meters, setting a new facility record of 47.98 seconds.  He also anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay team of Deron Davis, Silas Bashant and Ryan Swinea with a split of 47.51.  John Amenta rode a fast last 400 meters where he passed four competitors to place second overall with a time of 4:04.73 while teammate Chris Filatov took a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.45m.  On the long jump runway, teammates Luke Foster and Aidan Steele placed second and third with jumps of 6.72 meters and 6.60 meters respectively.  Finally, senior Joey Ciufo placed third in the 110 high hurdles witha  time of 15.89 seconds.

Next weekend the team will split up with some going to Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, while others will compete in the Cortland Upstate Alternative.
