Records Fall in First Meet of the Spring for Broncos Track & Field

Records Fall in First Meet of the Spring for Broncos Track & Field

Clinton, NY - The SUNY Delhi Track and Field team opened their outdoor season at Hamilton College for the Continental Invite.  The meet was highlighted by two school records as well as many other great performances.

Senior Chris Filatov opened his outdoor season building on his momentum from indoor.  He cleared a new personal best and program record height of 4.60 meters (15'1").  That mark breaks the program record of 4.43 meters set by Matt Scavetta back in 2018.  Filatov now holds both the indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault and his mark qualifies him for the AARTFC Championships.  Filatov also won the event with the performance.

Another record came from Kitty Messina.  Messina had a great indoor season where she broke the school record in the weight throw and she continued to find success with the hammer throw.  Messina launched the hammer 42.52 meters which topples the record of 41.94 meters set by Diana Echols back in 2019.

The men's team recorded some other highlights with event wins. Senior Joshua Jeffes won the 200 meters in 21.64 seconds which qualifies him for the AARTFC Championships later in the season.  Senior John Amenta won the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:09.57, nearly a minute ahead of his closest competitor.  In the field events, Luke Foster won the long jump with a mark of 6.61 meters.

Leading the way for the women's team was Zoe Rodi who placed second in the 200 meters.  Her time of 26.17 seconds was just 0.01 second behind the event winner in a great race and moves her to number two in program history for the event.

In a rare opportunity, the men and women combined forces and took one more event win.  Ransom Dutcher, Mary Bryant, Rodi and Jeffes won the mixed 4x400 meter relay event in a time of 3:43.57.

Next up for the Broncos is a trip to Utica University next weekend.
