DELHI, N.Y. (September 29, 2018) – Three unanswered goals was the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team's formula for winning on Saturday, overcoming an early one-goal deficit to defeat Green Mountain by a 3-1 score. Head coach Brian Mitko's squad captured their first three-game winning streak of the season, climbing to 6-2 and living up to their number-four national ranking in this week's USCAA Division II Coaches Poll.  

While Delhi would finish with a commanding 32-13 lead in shots Saturday, it was the Eagles who took the first score when Cameron Book connected at 23:04 for the 1-0 lead. It appeared that would be the lone goal of the half until freshman Carlos Del Monte supplied the equalizer with 27 seconds remaining in the first half, assisted by Jostin Sarmiento, to put both teams tied at halftime, 1-1.

The late first-half score was swiftly echoed to begin the second half, when Brody Rettle gave Delhi the lead at 46:24 off a feed from Matthew Cassidy. The Broncos defense kept up the intensity to keep the Broncos on top before freshman Ryan Hickey all but sealed the match on a score from Cassidy at 84:06.

Freshman Noah Blake and Gabriel Rodriguez split halves in net, with each gathering three saves. Rodriguez picked up the win to jump to 1-1 on the season. Rettle boosted his season scoring totals to 14 points on five goals and four assists, which ranks second on the team. Cassidy jumped up to nine points on three goals and three assists, while Del Monte now has eight points on three goals and two assists, leading Delhi's freshmen in scoring.

The men are set to travel to the state capital on Tuesday when they take on Albany College of Pharmacy at 7:00 p.m.
