Broncos Blank Falcons for Ninth Straight Win, Enter Postseason at 12-2

BOSTON, Mass. (October 28, 2018) – SUNY Delhi men's soccer closed out the regular season with a nine-game winning streak, completed by a 4-0 shutout of Fisher on Sunday. The Broncos got their first score in the second minute, and cruised the rest of the way as they enter the postseason with a 12-2 record.

Delhi held a commanding 34-7 lead in shots, including 17-5 in shots on goal. But it only took the Broncos' first shot to get on the scoreboard, as Brody Rettle, who ranks second on Delhi in scoring, got the team started with a goal at 1:16. The men pressed on, with Matthew Cassidy lining up a feed from Jostin Sarmiento to give the team a 2-0 lead at 12:47, which served as the halftime score. Freshman Ryan Hickey scored his first career goal at 63:37 to supply Delhi some added distance, then turned around to feed fellow freshman Juan Velez the Broncos' fourth score of the day at 69:18.

Freshman goalkeeper Gabriel Rodrigues posted five saves for his first career shutout, improving to 3-1 on the year. Rettle jumped his scoring totals to 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists. He is tied for first in the ACAA in assists, and second in points and behind teammate Alhasane Sako; Sako has 31 points on 14 goals and three assists.

Through the regular season alone, head coach Brian Mitko's team has their highest win total since 2016, and highest ever under the second-year head coach. The Broncos have improved by three games from last season, and are 8-2 this year against NCAA Division III opponents. Delhi looks to continue their success at next weekend's ACAA Tournament at Finlandia University (Mich.), where the Broncos will play Pine Manor in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
