Eight Honored on Senior Day as Men Win Eighth Straight vs. New Rochelle

DELHI, N.Y. (October 24, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team closed out their home season with a 4-1 victory over The College of New Rochelle Wednesday for their eighth straight win, improving to 11-2 overall. Prior to the game, the men recognized their eight graduating players.

The Broncos' departing class included Corey O'Toole (Criminal Justice), Marcos Andrino (Vet Science), Timothy Sogbodjor (Criminal Justice), Jostin Sarmiento (Architecture), Matthew Cassidy (Electrical & Instrumentation), Stefan Correia (Architecture), Lac Van (Construction Management), and Mitch Reed (Criminal Justice). Each were recognized prior to the game by coaches Brian Mitko and Nick Shenberger for their outstanding careers as SUNY Delhi student-athletes.

Delhi was quick to jump on the board with forward Brody Rettle securing the first goal of the game at 11:16. Just after a minute later, team-leading scorer Alhasane Sako buried a well-placed cross from Jostin Sarmiento to earn his first of two scores and put the Broncos up 2-0 at 12:22. Sako earned his second goal at 31:00, when the junior gathered a feed from Rettle as Delhi took a 3-0 lead at intermission.

The Broncos were not done scoring on the afternoon, as defender Ryan O'Hare scored his first career goal of a Cassidy corner kick for the 4-0 Delhi lead at 47:26. Blue Angel Xavier Cruzata scored to put CNR on the board at 50:57, which accounted for the final score of the day.

Andrino totaled seven saves on the day to climb to 9-1 on the season. The Broncos held a 13-12 lead in shots and a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Sako boosted his scoring totals to 31 points on 14 goals and three assists, adding to his lead in the ACAA in both the points and goals categories. Rettle is now tied for first in the conference with seven assists, and second with 25 points on nine goals.

Coach Mitko's team has one more regular season game when they travel to take on Fisher on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Broncos have locked up the third seed for next weekend's ACAA Tournament at Finlandia University (Mich.), where they'll play Pine Manor in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
