Men's Soccer Takes 1-0 Defeat at Hands of Clarks Summit

DELHI, N.Y. (September 6, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team played Clarks Summit down to the wire in a home contest Thursday afternoon, falling to the Defenders by a 1-0 score for their first defeat of 2018. The Broncos move to 2-1 on the season.

Playing through a pregame thunder warning and several downpours, the men held a 13-8 lead in shots and attempted nine corner kicks to CSU's five, with all nine coming in the second half. The lone goal allowed came in the 27th minute when Defender Evan Michel found the net off a Jan Rodriguez assist. Delhi posted five shots on goal, and had several close calls, all of which were unable to tie the match. Freshman keeper Gabriel Rodriguez posted four saves in his Delhi goalie debut to keep the Broncos in the contest.

After three matches through seven days to start the year, head coach Brian Mitko and the Broncos have a nice-sized break ahead of them to prepare for a road contest at local-foe Hartwick on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 12:00 p.m.
