Broncos Net Six, Shut Out Pratt in Season Debut

RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. (September 1, 2018) – Three goals between each half was how the SUNY Delhi men's soccer squad added up a 6-0 win at Pratt Friday evening in their season opener. The Broncos showcased a steady offensive attack that outshot the Cannoneers by a 13-4 ledger, as well as last season's team-leading scorer Alhasane Sako chalking up a two-goal day to lead Delhi.

Sako got Delhi on the board with a score off a feed from Brody Rettle at the nine-minute mark. The Broncos' next goal came off a corner kick, which deflected off a Pratt defender and in the back of the net to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead at the 18-minute mark. Freshman Jose Leiva notched his first career goal at minute 22, assisted by Mitch Reed, to close out the first-half scoring.

Once again, Sako started the half off with a goal, assisted once more by Rettle, for the Broncos' fourth goal at the 50-minute mark. That was followed by Matthew Cassidy notching a score at minute 60, followed by newcomer Carlos Del Monte closing out the scoring with a penalty-kick goal at the 81-minute mark.

Goalkeeper Marcos Andrino earned the win in goal Friday, playing all 90 minutes. Of Pratt's four shots, Andrino's defense did not allow any on goal.

Friday's victory secured the Broncos' fourth-straight season starting at 1-0, putting second-year head coach Brian Mitko perfect in season debuts. The Delhi men's next challenge will be getting to 2-0 for the first time under Coach Mitko as they welcome Alfred State to begin their home season on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
