DELHI, N.Y. (October 23, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team went into Saturday's season finale with SUNY Canton with plenty to play for. The first being for the squad's three seniors in their final career matches, and the second to complete the year on a high note and issue a bold statement for the future. They succeeded in a 1-0 victory over the playoff-bound Roos, finishing their NAC West season at 2-3 for fifth place.

Prior to the game, Brody Rettle (Business & Technology Management), Rommernio Morris (Construction Management), and Andre Bazile (Automotive) were recognized for their indelible contributions as student-athletes to both the program and the campus community. Rettle played assist-giver in the lone, deciding goal of the contest, making a move around a Canton defender and sailing a cross from the left side, where freshman Michael Williams Jr. headed it into the bottom left of the net in the 28th minute. Great ball handling from Morris, Bazile, and the rest of the green and gold continued to keep the Roos guessing and unable to deal the equalizer.

Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Walch finished his stellar season in net with nine saves for his first complete-game shutout. He finished second in the NAC with a .824 save percentage and fourth with a 1.25 goals allowed average, starting all but one match. He also had two combined shutouts this season with fellow keeper Tucker Garrett.

Williams finished his rookie season with a team-best ten points on five goals. Rettle's assist put him at eight points on three goals and two assists on the season and a school-record 75 career points on 30 goals and 15 assists. Rettle amassed this total playing in 65 matches and 53 starts in four seasons. Morris' four-year career ended on a high note after playing in 38 games with seven starts, with his one goal earlier this year putting his career scoring totals to six points on three goals. Bazile played in nine matches this fall in his lone season with the Broncos.

First-year head coach EJ Reutemann was pleased with his Broncos pulling together for a well-fought win to wrap a competitive season and send a message for the future of the program. "Resilient win today for the seniors. We will be back and carrying this momentum into next year," said Coach Reutemann.
