DELHI, N.Y. (September 25, 2021) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team now has a 2-0 NAC record to hang their hat on after Saturday's 5-0 runaway home win over Northern Vermont Lyndon. The Broncos compiled the goals four first-half goals and one in the second half, featuring a pair of scores from Gabriel Monterossa and Brody Rettle, and another from Michael Williams Jr. Delhi has a quick turnaround for its next NAC test, welcoming Maine Farmington tomorrow Sunday, Sept. 26 for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Broncos got rolling with two swift scores both within one minute. Freshman Aidan McLaughlin's cross from the right side found the foot of Gabriel Monterrosa to put the Broncos up 1-0 in the 16th minute, followed by the tandem of John Walsh and Williams capturing the same dynamic from the left side, with Williams' third goal of the year leading to a 2-0 advantage. Monterossa's scoring thunder rumbled again with another cross from the right, this time coming from Henry Minet, whose dribbler bounced over the diving keeper and offering Monterossa his third goal of the season in the 26th minute.

Delhi's fourth goal required no bounces minutes later, as Cesar Cruz-Vasquez's corner kick from the left bounced high off the head of Abubukar Mohammed, where Justin Huallanca flicked the ball behind him in the box to Brody Rettle, who drilled the ball in the back of the net on the fly for his first goal of 2021. Rettle's next scoring chance occurred late in the second half off a short-range free kick just outside the box, delivering a ball past the wall of five Hornets to the mid-left of the goal.

Delhi finished with a 22-4 lead in shots, including 10-2 in shots on goal, and having 13 corner kicks to the Hornets' zero. Jonathan Walch had plenty to praise his defense for with zero shots faced through 67 minutes of action before giving way to Tucker Garrett, who tallied two saves. Walch improved to 2-5-1 in a great season so far for the junior. Monterossa and Williams are currently locked in the team lead for scoring with six points each from three goals apiece.
