DELHI, N.Y. (September 8, 2021) – Another rainy home date put the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team in a similar scenario Wednesday against SUNY ESF as last week's opener, coming within one goal of their opponents in a 2-1 decision in favor of the guest Mighty Oaks.

The first half offered fair weather. So fair it produced an even exchange of goals from both sides. ESF drew first when Cooper Weinman trickled in a score off a corner kick deflection from Jack Phillips in the 11th minute. Senior defender Rommernio Morris evened the match on a well-orchestrated free-kick chance from Anthony Cuellar to tie the match with just under two minutes to play in the first half. The weather picked up with heavy rain throughout the second half. The Mighty Oaks regained the lead when Zack Rapacciuolo flicked over a free kick from the right by Caleb Prenoveau in the 72nd minute, which decided the outcome.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Walch collected three saves on the afternoon, while the defense posed one team save. The Broncos led in shots 11-9, with ESF holding a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Mighty Oaks also held an 11-9 lead in a corner kick-heavy contest.

The Broncos' next challenge is another home affair against SUNY Potsdam on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to close out their three-match home stand to open the season.
