Broncos Can't Overcome Early Deficit; Fall to SUNY Poly in NAC Play

MARCY, NY (April 16, 2022) -- SUNY Delhi Lacrosse was on the road again, this time making the trip to NAC foe SUNY Poly. Both teams brought unblemished conference records into the game. Unfortunately, a quiet first half attack for the Broncos proved too much to overcome in the second half. Poly would win the game 13-7.

The SUNY Poly Wildcats got the game's scoring started with two goals in the opening 8 minutes. Delhi's Logan Bauer would make the score 2-1 with a goal with 4 minutes to play in the opening 15 minute period. The Wilcats scored twice in the final 60 seconds to open a 4-1 lead after one.

Poly didn't change much and again got the first two goals of the 2nd quarter to move their lead to 6-1. Benjamin Moscatiello and Greg Junge pulled the Broncos back within 3 with goals less than a minute apart. But the Wilcats again stretched the lead all the way to 9-3, scoring the final three goals of the half.

Delhi had a strong 3rd quarter; shutting out the Wildcats and getting goals from Brandon McGrath, Junge, and Jackson Murphy. The lead was back to only 3.

Nick Dower scored an early 4th quarter goal to cut into the lead even further. But that would be as close as the visitors would get. SUNY Poly would tack on 4 more insurance goals and the score would go final at 13-7.

The Broncos would lead in many of the statisical categories; outshooting the Wilcats (45-39), picking up more groundballs (48-32) and going 20-24 on faceoffs.

Junge and Moscatiello lead both teams in shots with 11 and 9, respectively. Dower scooped a game-high 16 groundballs.

Samuel Steng went the full game in goal and made 14 saves in the loss.

The Broncos now have a lull in their season as they await for the conference tournament to take shape. Delhi finishes the regular season campaign 8-6 overall and boasts a 7-1 NAC record.
