Broncos Knock Off Mariners; Run Conference Record to 3-0

ONEONTA, NY (March 25, 2022) -- The Broncos returned to conference action when they hosted the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners this afternoon. It was a tight game throughout but the Broncos were able to put the game away for a 12-9 win.

Brandon McGrath got things going early with what would be the first of his 4 goals on the afternoon. The Mariners would grab the next goal but this would be the last time the game was tied. Delhi got goals from Jack McClurg and McGrath again to take a 3-1 lead. Maine Maritime would make the score 3-2 before the end of the quarter.

Delhi would begin the 2nd period with 3 straight goals within the first 4 minutes. Logan Bauer, McGrath and Benjamin Moscatiello got the goals. Delhi would go into the half leading 6-3.

As the temperature grew colder, the teams got hot and combined to score 9 goals in the 3rd frame. The Mariners utilized having a man up to begin the half and got on the board first with only 10 seconds run off the scoreboard. McGrath's last goal of the afternoon made it 7-4. The Broncos and Mariners exchanged goals the rest of the period but the Broncos would cling to a 10-8 lead to enter the 4th quarter. 

Delhi took advantage of their lead and the remaining time and began to grind the game away. An early goal by Benjamin Moscatiello pushed the lead back to 3 goals. Even though the Mariners cut the lead back to two, McClurg's third goal restored the 3-goal margin and smart decision-making sealed the victory for the Broncos.

Moscatiello (3 goals) joined McGrath and McClurg in the multi-goal club. Moscatiello also lead both teams with 12 shots and Greg Junge added 10 for the Broncos. Bauer and McClurg had two assists each.

Samuel Steng went the full 60 minutes in goal and registered 10 saves. Nick Dower had an outstanding afternoon as Delhi's faceoff man.

SUNY Delhi moves to 3-4 overall with a 3-0 NAC record. They'll be back in action this Sunday March 27 for a 12PM start again NAC foe Husson. The game will take place on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
