Eleven Broncos Awarded to USCAA Track & Field All-Senior Team

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (May 29, 2020) - Eleven graduating seniors from the SUNY Delhi track & field team were recognized to the 2020 USCAA Track & Field All-Senior Team, as announced by the league earlier this week. The Broncos enjoyed a spectacular indoor track & field season, and hoped to translate that into capturing their second consecutive men's and women's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) outdoor championships. This distincition from the USCAA recognizes departing senior student-athletes whose final seasons were cut short in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From the USCAA:

"Due to the crises surrounding the COVID - 19 pandemic the USCAA launched a new one-time award this season. The USCAA is proud to present the 2020 USCAA All-Senior team in lieu of the Spring All-American team. This award highlights the top senior athletes based on their cumulative career statistics and achievements. And were selected by the USCAA."

Diana Echols (Ellenville, NY / Ellenville) has established herself as arguably the best thrower in SUNY Delhi history. In her four years, she broke the indoor weight throw record all four seasons while playing basketball and outdoors she broke the hammer throw record in all three season she competed. She is also the number-two shot putter in history outdoors. In the spring of 2019, she won the NAC titles in the hammer throw and shot put helping the team to their first ever NAC Title. She has served on the SAAC as a student leader and been an incredible teammate and all-around asset to the program! She served as the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Susan Hoskins (Binghamton, NY / Susquehanna Valley) has been a shining example of work ethic over the past four years. She has been as reliable as they come and with that commitment has come continuous improvement. She has been the most consistent performer in the high jump and hurdles over the last four years while also competing in the multi and any other event the coaches asked of her. In 2019, she scored in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, and high jump at the NAC Championships helping the team to victory. Her career highlight was probably winning the high jump at the Colgate Class of '32 Invite in 2018 with a new lifetime best of 1.47m.

Ashley Magnifico (Bayport, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) has been a constant source of positivity and energy over her time at Delhi. She has not only been a constantly reliable performer, but an incredible teammate. In 2019, Ashley was a member of the conference championship 4x400 and 4x800 relays while also scoring in the 400 and 800 meter events. Most impressive about this is that Ashley is a 200/400 runner that had an injured hamstring, but was determined to contribute to the team. Finally healthy and in the best shape of her life in her senior year, she ran an indoor best in the 400 at Boston University and then ran as a member of the school record Distance Medley Relay team capping off her career with what Ashley valued most in track and field….a relay event!  Also an exceptional student, Ashley is a member of the Phi Sigma National Honor Society. She was Coach Munro's choice for his women's 2019-20 Coach's Award.

Arielle Moheimani (Homer, NY / Homer) is likely the most versatile athlete in the history of SUNY Delhi women's track and field. In 2019, she won the conference in the 400IH and 3000m steeplechase while helping the 4x4 and 4x8 relays to victory and scoring points in the long jump, javelin and hammer throw. Indoors, Arielle is on the all-time lists for the 400m, 500m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, long jump, weight throw and pentathlon and is on the school record DMR. Outdoors, she is on the all-time lists in the 400m, 800m, 3000m steeplechase, long jump, javelin, hammer throw and heptathlon. Her plans for the spring season included running the 100m, the 10,000m and the triple jump…the only three events she has not competed in during college. Her career highlight would have to be her First Team All-American in cross country at the 2019 USCAA Championships, running the second fastest 6k in program history. Also a fantastic student and community servant, Arielle has been honored as a recipient of the 2019-2020 SUNY Chancellor's Award for student excellence. All of this and she is graduating early! Moheimani recently received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, selected as one of just two students from SUNY Delhi this year to earn this honor.

Madeeah Oranchak (Binghamton, NY / Binghamton) is arguably the top athlete on the team over the past four years and one of the best in program history. She has posted school records in the indoor 200 meters and the outdoor 100 meters while posting the number-two performance in program history in the 4x100 relay, the indoor 60m dash, indoor 300m, indoor long jump and outdoor 200m. She also appears on the all-time lists in the triple jump indoors and out as well as the outdoor long jump. At the 2019 NAC Championships, Madeeah won the long jump, triple jump and 4x100 relay while finishing 2nd in the 100 and 200 meter dashes helping to lead the team to their first NAC Title!

Jewel Pignetti (New Windsor, NY / Cornwall Central) has run three seasons for the Broncos. An exceptional student, Jewel will be graduating early with her degree in Mechatronics and moving on to the next phase of her life. In her time at Delhi, Jewel has contributed to two conference titles in cross country, the first in the ACAA in 2018 and then the NAC in 2019. She has also participated in the top performance ever posted by the women's cross country team in 2019, running at the USCAA Championships where the team had podium finishes for the first time at the four year level and set the school record for five-woman average on a 6-kilometer course! Jewel's passion for the sport has been a huge factor in creating the atmosphere around the team. Jewel served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as its Outreach Coordinator.

Kevin Malen (Hunter, NY / Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central) has been a part of arguably the greatest run of cross country teams in program history and he has been right in the middle of it. Before missing most of cross country in 2019 because he was away on his internship, Kevin had been a back-to-back Second Team All-American at the USCAA National Championships in 2017 and 2018. Both of those performances contributed to National Team Titles for the Broncos. Kevin has also seen four straight conference championships for the men in cross country and scored in the 5000 and 10,000 meter runs at the team first ever NAC track and field championships contributing to yet another team title. Kevin, as exceptional student, is now preparing for the next stage of his life with his Mechatronics Degree.

Ted Oster (Mastic, NY / William Floyd) has been one of the huge improvements in the program over the past four years. He made his first trip to the USCAA Cross Country National Championships as a sophomore, placing 30th in the nation, then improving to Second Team All-American status as a junior,  placing 11th. As a senior, Ted ran a huge breakthrough race, clocking 26:11 in the 8-kilometer race, the 15th-best performance ever run by a Bronco. On the track, Ted's highlight has to be his 4:27.5 mile performance at Boston University, a full 7.5 second personal best!

Abshir Yerow (Syracuse, NY / Nottingham) has been nothing short of incredible since joining the Broncos as a junior college transfer. In his two years at Delhi, the former transfer from Onondaga Community College has run the fastest time ever in the cross country 8k, indoor 3k and indoor 5k. In by far the best shape of anyone in program history going into the outdoor season, his goals were set on the 5k and 10k records outdoors. Abshir has been the most incredible teammate and his positive energy and passion for training has helped to elevate numerous teammates and show them what it takes to excel at the highest levels! He is set to return for his final season of cross country this fall, where he'll look to repeat as a USCAA National Champion, while earning his third First Team All-American finish and the team's fifth consecutive national title.
