ITHACA, N.Y. (December 8, 2019) – Two new women's school records and four AARTFC qualifiers were how the SUNY Delhi track and field teams began their season Saturday at Cornell's Greg Page Relays. Junior thrower Akilah Sanders set a new college mark in the shot put with a measurement of 12.04m to finish third in the event. The women's distance medley relay team of Arielle Moheimani, Ashley Magnifico, Katerina Salcedo, and Sophie Stewart topped the all-time list with a time of 13:19.21 to place fifth.

Sanders broke the previous shot put mark of 11.63m set by Cheyenne Weaver in 2016. The Brooklyn native initially beat the mark on her first throw at 11.76m, then bested that with her record-setting fifth throw to earn a regional mark in the process. The women's DMR team broke the previous record of 13:22.86 from 2005 by Nicole Cubero, Perry Brown, Cassi Williams, and Melissa Healey.

Three men earned AARTFC spots. Junior Alex Irving took fourth with a regional-qualifying stretch of 13.70m. Jumper Wylie Troy punched his ticket taking fifth in the high jump at 1.90m. Brandon McKenzie ran the 60 meters in 7.09 to qualify.

The men's DMR group of Braxxdon Dawson, Sean Andrews, Michael Moran, Lucas Reilly took third with a time of 10:40.80. Moran and Dawson finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 500 meters, with Moran clocking in at 1:08.64 and Dawson 1:09.32. Salcedo finished fifth in the women's 500 meters at 1:23.80. Chris Filatov took fifth in the pole vault, clearing 4.20m

The Broncos pick things up after winter break in the new year when they head to Staten Island, NY for the Ocean Breeze Gotham Cup on Friday, Jan. 17.
