BOSTON, Mass. (February 16, 2020) – Distance runner Abshir Yerow shaved one second off his school record in the 5,000 meters Saturday to help SUNY Delhi leave their mark on one of college track and field's grandest stages at Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Yerow ran to a time of 14:55.05, besting his previous school standard of 14:56.22 that he set at Ocean Breeze in January.
The Broncos posted plenty of personal and season bests during the women's competition on Friday and the men's portion on Saturday. Jaylynn Sheppard ran for a lifetime best of 26.92 in the 200 meters, while Diara Oliver and Susan Hoskins both set indoor bests in the same race. Oliver clocked in at 27.43, while Hoskins ran for 29.64. Ashley Magnifico finished with a new indoor best in the 400 meters at 1:03.31, followed by freshmen Sabrina Richards and Jackie Graham setting new heights. Richards ran for 1:03.98, while Graham posted a 1:04.04. The 4x400 team of Magnifico, Arielle Moheimani, Graham, and Katerina Salcedo set a ten-second season best by taking a time of 4:13.52.
The men's performance on Saturday featured the 4x400 team of Michael Moran, Sean Andrews, Alex Brown, and Shamar Barker posting the third-fastest time in school history with a time of 3:23.88. Jumper Alex Irving reached a new lifetime best in the triple jump with a distance of 14.28m, while Sean Andrews set a new personal standard in the 400 meters at 50.84. Michael Moran set a season best in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.41, while freshman Seth Bywater posted a season high in the 3,000 meters at 8:50.08. Ian Luhmann set an indoor personal best in the 200 meters by clocking in at 22.96, as did Wylie Troy at 23.35. Aidan Cutting dropped nearly 11 seconds off his personal best in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:35.67.
Head coach Robb Munro's team heads back to Cornell next weekend for Saturday's Marc Deneault Invite.
