ITHACA, N.Y. (January 25, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi track and field team continued their productive season Saturday in a return to Cornell University for the Upstate Challenge. Women's jumper Madeeah Oranchak earned a AARTFC qualifier in the long jump, while several Broncos flirted with school records and others setting personal bests.
Oranchak earned a spot at the AARTFC long jump with her third jump going for 5.30m, then besting that with her fifth jump reaching 5.31m for fifth place. Thrower Diana Echols came close to her own school record in the weight throw, with her third throw coming in at 13.92m to take seventh, while her school standard is 14.09m.
On the men's side, pole vaulter Chris Filatov cleared 4.32m, and got the chance to attempt 4.47m for the indoor school record. Jumper Alex Irving set a new personal best in the triple jump at 14.03m for fifth place after qualifying for AARTFC's in the team's last visit to Cornell in December. Fellow jumper Glenn Butler, who set the school record in the long jump at Ocean Breeze last week, again won the event Saturday with a distance of 6.89m. He also took fifth in the high jump with a new season best of 1.90m.
Additional highlights Saturday included the men's 4x400 team of Michael Moran, Sean Andrews, Alex Brown, Shamar Barker taking fourth with a time of 3:33.79, while the women's relay squad of Ashley Magnifico, Jackie Graham, Mary Lyons, Arielle Moheimani earned seventh at 4:30.79. Moran finished sixth in the 800 meters by clocking in at 2:02.43.
Head coach Robb Munro's team will return to Ithaca next weekend, this time going to Ithaca College for the Bomber Invite and Multi this Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2.
