Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi men's tennis team returned to action this weekend for a conference doubleheader against Thomas. The Broncos enter play looking to wrap up the regular season on a positive note.
In game one, Thomas would record the clean sweep in the doubles portion of the contest. Delhi's duo of Gavin Bonczkowski and Devin Guerrieri would fare best for the Broncos, falling by a narrow score of 9-7. The Terriers would ride that momentum into the singles portion of the contest, winning five of the six singles matches that followed. Nicholas Vanhouten would capture the lone singles victory for the Broncos in a three-game thriller. In the end, Thomas would come out on top, cruising to an 8-1 match victory.
In game two, Thomas would dominate the doubles portion once again, earning another clean sweep. This time, the Broncos duo of Ben Anderson and Nicholas Vanhouten would fall just short by a score of 8-6. The Terriers would again win five of the six singles matches, with Vanhouten staying hot for the Broncos, recording the only single victory.
The Broncos fall to 4-6 on the season, 3-2 in conference play, enough to earn the squad a spot in the Empire 8 playoffs. Delhi finishes third in the east division, setting up a first-round playoff matchup against Norwich on Saturday, April 26th.
