BRONCOS OF THE WEEK (2/9): Carissa Crandall, Seth Bywater

DELHI, N.Y. (February 9, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi Athletics Broncos of the Week takes on a new meaning this semester. We are excited to collaborate with our community to highlight our local student-athletes, and turning to our Broncos who have excelled academically. Each week we will showcase our Broncos through "Nate Lull's Local Look" and our "Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight."

Nate Lull's Local Look: Carissa Crandall, Softball (Walton, NY / Walton)

WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull is based in Sidney, NY and reports on high school sports in the counties that surround SUNY Delhi. Many of the athletes Nate covers continue their sports careers by joining the Bronco family. Each week Nate will highlight a local player that he covered in high school and is now in college at SUNY Delhi.

This week Nate has selected Carissa Crandall from Softball. Carissa is a native of Walton, NY.

Nate says "Carissa was a dominant 3-sport athlete at nearby Walton Central School. She played field hockey, basketball and softball. Her speed and gritty style allowed her to earn all-star honors in all 3 sports. I got the chance to coach Carissa on an AAU basketball team and she was a great player to have on the squad. I was thrilled to watch her on the SUNY Delhi Women's Basketball team last year, and I am excited to watch her transition to the softball team this year. Her bat has a lot of pop and she will be a great addition to the program."

Check back next week for another one of Nate's picks!

Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight: Seth Bywater, Cross Country/Track & Field (Cornwall, NY / Cornwall Central)

Academically, Seth has been working ahead of pace in his rigorous Mechatronics program and is on pace to graduate early. In addition to the classes in his major, Seth has also taken additional courses to work towards a coaching certification, as he would like to work with young people in that capacity in the future. Despite the demands of his academic course load, he has managed to be a selfless community servant as well as a three-season student-athlete all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

As an athlete, Seth has been an All-American and a true leader in the cross-country and track and field programs. He has often come to Head Coach Robb Munro in support of teammates that were struggling who needed assistance. As a crossover between athletics and service, he is the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and has been the driving force in numerous initiatives on campus and on social media surrounding wellness. With a schedule as demanding as his, time management is critical. It has been very common for him to have to do workouts late at night or early in the mornings without teammates because he is involved in so many other things on campus, but nothing ever fell through the cracks.
