DELHI, N.Y. (November 7, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team made their long-awaited return to competition in their own Floyd L. Maines Arena Saturday afternoon with a season-opening meeting with Utica College. It marked the women's first game since Feb. 17, 2020, a staggering 628 days. The newcomers for Delhi led the team's stat sheet, with Angelica Lazo leading with ten points and Jennifer Roche with seven rebounds and five assists as the Pioneers took an 86-37 victory.

The Broncos finished the day shooting 25.9 percent (15-of-58) to Utica's 33.0 percent (31-of-94). The green and gold took all but seven of their shots inside the arc, with Roche accounting for the team's lone 3-pointer in her seven-point afternoon, while UC only connected on four of its 32 attempts from 3-point range. Junior Justine Lubbers finished the day with eight points and two boards, while Jahddah Lennon shot 3-for-3 for six points despite early foul trouble and 11 minutes of action.

The Broncos are back on their home court this Wednesday for game number two hosting Alfred State. Both A-State and Scranton Pa.'s Marywood University are non-conference opponents SUNY Delhi will be seeing twice this season.

Coach's Comments...

"I am very happy with how the game against Utica went. While taking an L is never ideal, growth is the motive behind starting the season off competing against a strong program, such as Utica. The players have improved tremendously since the beginning of preseason and I am hopeful that with dedication and work, we will continue the upward trend so we are ready for conference play. Growth is never easy but sometimes you have to take a big loss in order to take the strides needed to make the vision of the program come into fruition. Overall, I am happy with the effort and intensity we played with and I am excited to see the growth that we anticipate from such a young squad." - Head Coach Aiden McRoberts
