Delhi, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team was back in action looking to snap an 8-game skid, taking on Lehman College for an afternoon doubleheader.
In game one, Lehman's Angelina Perez would start strong on the mound for the Lightning, not allowing a run in the opening three innings. The Lightning's offense would begin to erupt in that third inning that saw two runs followed by an additional two in the following frame. Delhi shortened the deficit in the bottom of the fourth behind a sac fly from sophomore Jaden Taylor. Lehman would score for the third consecutive inning, this time plating three runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Broncos would make things interesting in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run effort led by RBI singles from junior Riley Martin and sophomore Angelina Dickel. Jaden Taylor would add another sac fly, followed by an RBI triple from sophomore Cayla Moroni. In the end, Lehman would hold on to record the 8-5 victory.
In game two, the Broncos would flip the script, scoring in each inning, with first-year Stephanie Huckabee kicking things off just two batters into the contest with an RBI single to center. Riley Martin would continue her hot stretch in the third inning with an RBI single down the right field line. All eyes would be on senior Danielle Seymour, leading the way for the Broncos on the mound. Seymour would record the five-inning complete game shutout, collecting five strikeouts on just two hits. The Broncos bats would continue to come alive; Huckabee would deliver again with a two-run single followed by an RBI double from sophomore Carolina Watson. In the bottom of the fifth, Delhi would end things early with RBI singles from Cayla Moroni and Riley Martin, as they cruised to a 9-0 victory.
The Broncos improve to 7-13 and will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader at home against Potsdam.
