Softball Concludes Southern Road Trip with Even 4-4 Record

Myrtle Beach, SC - The SUNY Delhi softball team returned to action for their final day of competition down south, taking on Wilson College and St. Elizabeth University.

In game one, it would be an absolute pitching duel between the two sides that saw no runs scored in the opening five innings. First-year Alethea Ferrara would start strong on the mound only allowing five hits across five innings. Delhi would flash the leather on defense headlined by a run-saving sliding catch in left field by sophomore Angelina Dickel. The Phoenix would eventually end the stalemate and break the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning with 5 runs. Julia Wilkes would record the complete game shutout securing the 5-0 victory.

Similarly, in game two it would be another initial pitching battle, this time with senior Danielle Seymour taking the bump. Seymour would start strong, holding the opposition scoreless through the first three frames. The Eagles would momentarily break the tie in the top of the fourth inning, taking a 1-0 lead. The Broncos would respond in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs coming by way of RBIs from first-year Stephanie Huckabee and sophomore Hannah Caughey. With the offense beginning to erupt on both sides, the Eagles would claw themselves back in the fifth, tying the contest back up at three apiece. St. Elizabeth would eventually regain the lead, adding unearned runs in both of the final two innings to capture the 6-3 victory.

The Broncos fall to 4-4 on the year and will return back to their home state to take on Hartwick for an away doubleheader on March 12th.
