Softball Splits Local Doubleheader with Hartwick

Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Delhi softball team returned to action following an 8-game stint in Myrtle Beach, SC, taking on the Hawks of Hartwick for an evening doubleheader.

In game one, the Broncos would strike first, plating 4 runs in the third inning behind an RBI single from senior Danielle Seymour and a pair of sacrifice flies from senior Sidney Cooper and first-year Stephanie Huckabee. That would be all Seymour would need as she continued her dominance on the mound. The righty would go the distance, pitching a complete game while only allowing 4 hits. The duo of Cooper and Huckabee would build on their day, collecting additional RBIs in the later frames. Sophomore Carolina Watson joined the parade with an RBI single in the seventh as Delhi went on to secure the 7-2 victory.

In game two, the Broncos would start fast again, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead behind an RBI triple from Huckabee. The Chittenango native would finish the day totaling 4 hits and 3 RBIs. However, Hartwick would flip the script, scoring 5 unanswered runs behind two home runs from Samantha Moore. First-year Alethea Ferrara would keep the contest close, posting 4 scoreless innings in relief. Carolina Watson would add a sacrifice fly in the final frame, but it wouldn't be enough as the Hawks escaped with the 5-3 victory.

The Broncos split on the day, moving to 5-5 on the year, and will take on Houghton for an away doubleheader on March 22nd.
