Brody Rettle Accorded ACAA, NIAC Athlete of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (October 31, 2017) – The American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) and Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC) today announced freshman forward Brody Rettle (Staten Island, NY / Susan E. Wagner) as its Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 29. Rettle was recognized for his hat trick performance in Delhi's 4-1 win over Berkeley NY on Wednesday to help the Broncos finished the regular season at 8-7. This is Rettle's first weekly honor, and the first for any SUNY Delhi men's soccer player this season.

Rettle's performance against the Knights catapulted the freshman from Staten Island to a tie for first with Alhasane Sako for season goals on the team with six, and second in scoring with 13 points. Only Sako is ahead with 14 points. Rettle previously had goals against Penn State Hazleton, College of St. Joseph and Fisher, as well as an assist against Berkeley NJ.

After 30 minutes of scoreless action on Wednesday, Rettle got Delhi on the board when he gathered a rebound off a shot that hit the post by Alhasane Sako in the 31st minute. The Broncos scored again late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead, but Rettle was not yet through before halftime, scoring a goal off a breakaway with 58 ticks remaining. His final goal was off a free kick in minute 60, when his delivery, which appeared to be intended for Rommernio Morris in the box, bounced past Morris, and fortunately, past the goalie, as well, to give Rettle his season-best third goal of the match.
