Herbert Shoots 71 as Broncos Take Fourth at Shenandoah

FRONT ROYAL, Va. (September 11, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi men's golf team braved through some tough Virginia weather over the weekend to finish tied for fourth with a 289 score at the Shenandoah Greene Turtle Invitational. Russell Herbert shot a 71 one-over-par score to lead the Broncos at ninth on the leaderboard. The Broncos finished tied with Stevenson, as Guilford won the competition with a 281 score.

Originally set as a two-day tournament, the opening Sunday portion was cancelled due to bad weather, leaving Monday's slate as the sole day of competition. The invitational took place at the par-70, 6,063-yard Shenandoah Valley Golf Course. A total of 16 teams competed, including Virginia-Wise, Randolph-Macon and Christopher Newport.

Daniel Christy and Alex Fisher each totaled 72's for 18th place, while Jonathan Smolen clubbed a 74 for 34th. Zach Barrett finished with an 81 for 69th place. Brandon Palmer, who competed as an individual, finished tied with Smolen after shooting a 74.

Head coach Dave Arehart and the Broncos have nearly two weeks to prepare for their next competition at the Utica College Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23.
