track podium

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 20, 2021) – Three wins and a pair of nearly two-decade long school records fell during a momentous second day for the SUNY Delhi track & field team at the AARTFC Championships. The Broncos' Thursday slate consisted of their freshmen runners setting new PRs and chasing history over the course of four races. These wins catapulted the men to an eighth-place team finish in the 34-team field with 37 points.

Freshman sprinter Naquille Harris set new Delhi standards on his way to winning the 100 and 200 meters, while establishing new AARTFC meet and St. John Fisher stadium records in both events. After qualifying for the 100 finals Wednesday at 10.65, Harris won the event with a time of 10.49, topping the previous school record of 10.56 set by Marvin Elmore in 2002. An hour-and-a-half later, Harris doubled down by securing the victory and another school record in the 200 at 21.10, again passing Elmore's previous record of 21.50 from 2002.

Newcomer Josh Jeffes secured the regional victory in the 400 meters, capturing a career-best time of 49.51 to take the top spot on the podium by just .01 seconds. Fellow frosh Morgan Condon took first in his heat and sixth overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.64.

Including freshman John Amenta's fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters Wednesdsay (14:56.34), the Broncos totaled five podium finishes over the two-day competition. Their three victories Thursday gives them a grand total of four AARTFC first-place finishes since joining in 2018-19. Kobie Lane won the 5,000 meters (14:53.18) at the 2019 Outdoor Championships.
