DELHI, N.Y. (April 18, 2021) – For the first time in two years, SUNY Delhi hosted an outdoor track & field meet on Saturday with a tri-meet versus Mt. St. Mary and Castleton. The day was highlighted with sophomore Sophie Stewart earning a AARTFC qualifying mark in the 3K steeplechase (12:05.37) and freshman Josh Jeffes in the 400 meters (49.78).

"Man did it feel good to get out there today and see these athletes get to live their passions again," said head coach Robb Munro. "With all the opportunities they lost in the last year, they stayed focused and motivated and today, after more than a year off of racing, many of them ran new lifetime bests which is a testament to their drive! It was great to see good performances and to have two athletes qualify for the AARTFC Championships, but most of all it was just great to watch these amazing young people get excited to compete again!"

Several Broncos cut it close to AARTFC marks, including those who were competing in their first collegiate events. Freshman John Amenta missed by just over a second while winning the 5K with a mark of 15:26.19 and fellow freshman Naquille Harris was a tenth of a second off the qualifier in the 100 meters with a time of 11.20.  Jeffes also came close, winning the 200 meters at 22.55.

Other event victories for the Broncos came from sophomore Aidan Cutting in the 1500 meters and 3000 steeplechase, Senior Jaylynn Sheppard in the 100 meters, sophomore Jackie Graham in the 400 meters, Junior Katerina Salcedo in the 800 meters, Sophomore Mary Lyons in the 1500 meters and Freshman Marissa Lombardi in the 5000 meters and sophomore Katelyn Ingraham in the triple jump.

The women's 4x100 relay team of Sabrina Richards, Graham, Sheppard and Kadie-Ann Whyte also won their race.

The Broncos gear up to host Saturday's NAC West Invitational, welcoming conference foes SUNY Cobleskill, Cazenovia as well as Sage College.
