WATERVILLE, Me. (April 21, 2021) - SUNY Delhi track & field freshmen John Amenta (Fishkill, NY / John Jay) and Josh Jeffes (Scotia, NY / Scotia-Glenville) used their noteworthy career debut performances at Saturday's Bronco Classic to secure the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Co-Rookie and Track Athletes of the Week.

Amenta ran in his first race as a collegiate student-athlete after a 13 month layoff between his high school and college careers. While John had managed to get in some road races and show steady improvement all fall, his performance on Saturday was still eye-opening. He opened in the 1500 meters where he placed second overall in a time of 4:18.63, which is just off of his lifetime best. He then returned, however, to the track 90 minutes later for the 5000 meters, where he ran a 24-second personal best posting a time of 15:26.19. That was good for the win and just outside of the AARTFC mark of 15:25.

Jeffes returned to the track for the first time since last winter, and his first time as a collegiate student-athlete, in top form. In his first race since the 2020 NYS Indoor State Championships, his run of 49.78 in the 400 meters earned him the win and a qualifying mark for the AARTFC Championships. He then came back for another win in the 200 meters and a lifetime best performance of 22.55.
